Buddy is my pretty little boy budgie. He has been part of the family since 4-April-2000. Buddy is a very special bird with a special story. I'm glad he made it through into our hearts. Bud was given to me by my sister, who worked at a nursery that had aviaries also. The day Bud hatched (aaawww), he was unfortunately the littlest out of all his brothers and sisters. Still with his fragile featherless body, his mother started to kick him out of the nest, like a peice of trash - he wasn't wanted anymore. Luckily, my sister notice this happening, and made him a patch of straw and hay on the ground under the nest box for a "landing pad" for each time he got kicked out. Every time he fell, my sister placed him back again. Over and over again this happen, till little Bud started to get very sick. Buddy couldn't go back to the nest anymore, he was too sick and he needed alot of care. The last time Buddy fell, my sister put him in her beanie (hat). And that's where he stayed. At this time, I still didn't know about Buddy. The beanie made a great "nest", it was warm, cozy and he got fed from my sister every day, all day. Buddy started to get better, and bigger! But during that time, my sister grew attached to him and didn't want to return him back to the aviary, Buddy was special. At the time, I was still upset about my cat that we had to send to "kitty heaven" the week before, due to cancer :( So my sister thought this was a good time for Bud to find a new home. I still remember like it was yesterday. I was on my computer, and mum and my sister just come home. Both of them come around the corner into my room, and my sister had her beanie in her hand. As she slowly handed the beanie to me, she said "look inside". Carefully I moved away the layers of the beanie and there was BABY BUDDY! I feel in love straight away! He was sooooo cute and fragile, how could have I said no!? Bud is very special to me, his my best friend, I'd be heart broken if something ever happen to him. His a great little bird, and very smart. His continuously making up new words and sounds. He talks heaps and says alot of different words and noises like the most common are: Buddy Naughty What You Doin' Buddy Good Pretty Boy Where's Chrystal Hello Hello Buddy Night night Buddy loves treats. His favourites are lettuce, multi-grain bread, apples, pears, egg&biscuit crumble, and millet sticks. Every Anzac Day, Bud gets his very own Anzac Bickie that he totally loves. Its great to hear him crunch the biscuit edges. |
